ALBUENIA.
A breaking down in tho stopes last night produced 2 cwt. of picked stuff, and about 15 lbs of fine specimens. The mine was visited to day. In the face of the west drive seventy feet level it was found to be looking hardly so well as formerly. There is not quite so much gold showing, and in the centre of tlie lode there is a strong " horse," or bank of mullock. Tho quartz on the hanging and footwall looks healthy, and there is plenty of good mineral showi?jg. As stated in a previous report, the run of gold has a slight dip westward. It may turn out that the end.of the run in the drive is drawing near, and that to follow it a winze will be necessary. In the stopes above the show continues first-class. Gold can be traced for fully 40 feet along the back. The foot-wail of the reef is apparently the richest —it being from this portion that the picked stone and specimens referred to above were chiefly obtained. The country in this level is much more settled than that above the Whau level, consequently there is less chance of clay slides and seams being met with. In the eastern end the lode is two or three feet thick—a very promising body of quartz. It is now producing payable crushing stuff", and picked stone is occasionally obtained. A winze is being suukin this drive to connect with the level below.- A nice looking leader, showing gold, was cut through, and this the manager expects to pick up when continuing operations eastward on the nittiu lode at the 160 feet level. In the the eastern end good crushing stuff is coming from the stopes. At the next level it wa3 found that the drive west iv the lode has advanced to within 70 feet of a perpendicular line from the face of the drive above. The appearance of the reef here is very similar to what it is iv the level above and it is hoped that good gold will also be struck. The manager is now awaiting instructions to push on this drive.
