Last night. Arrived : Ada C. Owen, barquontine, from Kaipara; Taiaroa, from the North; Jasper, three masted schooner, from Mauritius via Lyttelton. Sailed : Mr 3 Turner, barque, for Newcastle ; Wakatipu for Sydney via tho North. Passengers: Lyttelton—Mrs Kirkcaldy. Wellington—Misses Dowd and Kincaid, Mr Holmes. Wanganui—Blr Lewis. Sydney '-Mr and Mrs Beck, Mrs Scott, Messrs Mclndoe, Greenfield, Gardiner, Dr Neill; 16 Chines and 20 steerage for all ports. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to consider the question of the tariff revision. A motion by Mr Stout recommending that the committee should consider tho question of the tariff revision with a view to protection and native industries was negatived by a large majority. A resolution was carried referring it to a committee to bring up suggestions to be discussed at a meeting on Friday liexfc. It-has been recognised as a principle" that; revised duties should be raised for purposes of revenue only.
