Fob the first lime for many months, the nooks and crannies of scrip corner reverberated with the almost forgotten echoes of the Stock Exchange bell summoning the members of that august body—well, not to prayers. As the members hastily rushed across the street and entered the meeting house it was noticed that thehabitual care-worn expression had disappeared from their faces, and all signs of lassitude were removed—due, no doubt, to the fact that all were eager to do business at 2| per cent. A report of the business done appears in another column.

We have been requested to intimate that, as the E.M. will be absent at Cororannael the attendance of two Justices in accordance with the rotn, will be required at the Court to-morrow morning.

The adjourned meeting re the Thames Annual Knees was held at the Governor Bowen Hotel last night. There was a good attendance. A Committee was appointed to decide at which course the races should be held, and the meeting adjourned till Friday. We learn that all the preliminaries are being very satisfactorily arranged; and wo look forward to a very enjoj'able race meeting. With reference to the ease of the man Shuttleworth, referred to in last night's issue, it has since transpired that the unfortunate man was seen at 6.30 o'clock on Monday night at the foot of the Shellback creek considerably the worse of liquor. He resides some distaneo up the creek, and tte track to his residence is even somewhat dangerous to a sober man in broad daylight. It appears that in going home he slipped over a bank 70 feet high, and was found by a young man named Sawyer i<\ the condition described. From enquiries made at the Hospital to-day it was learnt the unfortunate man was much better.

The Shortland Quadrille Assembly held a very successful reunion on Monday evening at Addey's Hall, Baillio street. There were about 50 couples present, and Mr W. Murphy satisfactorily performed the onerous duties of M.O. Messrs Fuljames and Scott catered, and the refreshments provided afforded the greatest satisfaction. The success of the affair was in a great measure due to She unremitting exertions of Mr H. W. Ferguson, secretary to tho Committee.
