A Mysterious Case.
The following memo, was kindly forwarded to us to-day by Dr M. H. Payne, Hospital Surgeon, and is certainly one of the most suspicious cases of hocussing aud brutal treatment, if not worae, we have had occasion to chronicle for some time :—
" Edward Childerworth, butcher, living in Shellback, was found early this morning in Shellback Creek senseless; was brought to the Hospital where I examined him: Left arm broken ; two ribs smashed, their pointed extremities having perforated the lung, causing considerable hemorrhage from mouth; was perfectly senseless. Those who brought him did not know who he was or anything about 'him. 12 noon. —Partially conscious; does not know how he got* to Tararu, or how he got into the Creek; last remembers being in Mary street near Hospital."
2 p.m.—Since the above was in type we are informed that the case may terminate fatally.
