The Borough lteturuiog Ofliear notifies that nominations for the Mayoralty will be received by him ou Monday tho 17th inst, and that if a poll should be necessary, Wednesday tho 2Gth inst, will be appoin ted as the day for that purpose. We hare no authentic information as to the gentlemen who intend seeking this, the highest honor burgesses can confer, but rumour says that at least one gentleman who was disappointed of Parliamentary honors lately, intends running for the smaller stakes.
It is hardly necessary to remind our readers of the Protestaut Alliance soiree this evening in the Academy of Music. A full programme of the entertainment is p.iven in another column., and we fully expect it will be a great success. Tho only other attraction this erening is a dance in the building known as Addey's Hull, and the names of the gentlemen connected with it is a sufficient guarantee of an enjoyable evening.
Is the division list on the third readiag of the Triennial Parliaments Bill as published by us on Saturday we notice several of the members of the " Great Liberal Party" including our member, Mr Shechan. \Ve would suggest that our Liberal Association at its nest meeting should take this matter into cousideraUou.
Tm; !ipi)i'jinui(!C- ol tho tand of tlio Hauniki .kngineorrf in tb.t'ir nw uniforms was thi! suhjvet of cooi'U'v.-i'sio criiittism at the corner this inon>hi<j. The uniforms ivert 1 18 in number, and vhto turned oui. of lh« establishment of Iho company's tnilor, Mr 11. Vv'iscmasi, of Urovvn afreet, in souietl.imt under n iorinis>hl. The tunics are of scarlet wilh white trimmings, aigulettc across the breast with acorns hanging therefrom ; bkia trmrsers with a white stripe down tiie side, and forage caps of blue with a scarlet band running round. From the style in which this order has been executed, it does seem a pity that money should be sent out of the Colony for importing uniforms. We believe, however, that the Mosgiel Woollen Factory intend manufactoring a scarlet cloih suitable for tins kind of work, and if such is the case we trust that in future all the uniforms of our citizen soldiers will be made in the colony.
Ouii old friend, Geovfjo Tnrner, nearly lost the number of his mess on Saturday evening. It appears that in the pursuit of his nrocntion, he was, towards dusk, a considerable distance out on the .Shorthind mut-flats, and on attempting to return got out of his depth in the mud, soon finding himself waist deep in it. The tide rising at the time made his position a rather dangerous one, but beiug blessed «ilh a good pair ot lungs he soon made people" acquainted with his want? — the result being a rescue.

Sin Julius Vogel is one of tbo Tory candidates for Falniouth, and it is expected in (he borough that he will beat Mr Cole, the second Liberal, Mr Jenkins, being considered safe. Under these circumstances, some little bitterness prevails between the contending parties. Lady Vo»el (Sir Julius having with great prudence taken a place in the neighbourhood, which is the cause of much broadcast upon the waters hospitality) has invited the children of Penryn (Falmouth to follow, presumably) to spend a day in her grounds. Whereupon foine suspicious Liberals have stigmatised her Ladyship's invitation as a political move —a bait to catch grateful parents of wavering opinions. On this, it has been pointed out that, whatever niay be Lady Vopcl's motive, the Liberal members do not forget that an election is approaching, for Mr Jenkins lately travelled all night from Londou to lay the foundation-stone of a sect he doea not belong to, and that sir Cole, a staunch Churchman, came down to preside at a Methodist meeting.— Exchange.
