The Protestant Alliance Friendly Society intend celebrating their sixth Anniversary in the Academy of Music on Monday evening next, tho 10th of November. . A Ti:nnii!LT-: fight betn-cen a hog and blade snake, about seven feel long, has Just been seen near Stone Kidge, N.Y. A drove of hogs were pasturing iv a lot owned by Cornelius Hardenburgh. Most of the lot is swampy land. The hog had been wallowing in the niiro, where the snake found him. Instantaneously the snake wound itself three or four tiroes around the hog's neck, and tried to throw the hog, but failed. Gaining firm ground after some trouble, the hog started on a run towards the drove. The snake then lengthened himself out, and, rearing his head directly in front of the hog's eye, drew back as though to strike. As he did so the hog opened wido his mouth, and instead of striking where it intended, tho snake popped its head between the hog's jaws, which immediately closed. The result was that, the head and a part of tho snake were bitten off. The remainder of the snake, which had encircled the hog's throat, loosened its hold and dropped to the ground.

As an instance of American competition it is mentioned that eggs imported from Chicago hare been eaten at Dublin break-fast-tables since the month began, and good American butter at Sd per pound is on sale on the Dublin quays.
