A COMPLAINT.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sib,—Can you inform the ratepayers of Sbortland the reason why they are so neglected by the Borough Council re the expenditure of rates in that district, more especially between Willouphby and Grey streets. Stinking drnins and bad footpaths! Again, look at Mackay nnd Baillie streets, smell again at Sealey street—that infernal brewery. When we compare Grahamstown to Shortland, the expenditure must be enormous in favor of Grahamstown. Good footpaths, stone crossings; and yet poor sleepy hollow has to pay for it all, and get nothing done to glitters or footpaths ! So long as the ratepayers choose to elect men to the Council that hold lar^e properties in Grahamstown, they will never get a fair share of rates spent in their district. Rouse up, yo sleepy ones ! Agitato and obtain — Fair-plat Shortland, November sth, 1879.
