Thames Borough Council.

We are compelled to compress our report of the proceedings at the fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council last evening. Cr Ehreufried, Acting-Major, presided. It was decided to allow Mr Walker, of Kauaeranga Valley, £19 as his share of dividing fence at Recreation Ground. It was decided not to accept Mr Stevens' offer to lease the Recreation Grouml, but to call for fresh tenders.

An assurance was given to Mr Comer, manager of the Moanatairi, that as soon as the gold duty due by the Borough to the Moanatairi Pumping Association was paid to the Council, it would be handed to the Association.

It was resolved to inform Mr McGowan that at present tho Council could not make the footpath in front of his shop, Pollen street north.

A letter from the Auckland Relieving Officer re the alleged overcharging of the Borough by that functionary was referred to Charitable Aid Committee.

Mr Fleming wrote objecting to do the valuation of Borough with no other assistance than that of the office boy, and the matter was referred to Cr McGowan and the Town Clerk to settle.

Tho report of the Works and Recreation Ground Committee was read and adopted. It- was aa follows :—

" With regard to the matter of fencing in the Kauaerauga Valley Koa i on both sides, referred to m the letter of the letter of the 'I tames County Council, and referred to your Committee. It is a recommendation of this Committee that in order to. assist the County Council iv every way to form and open this road for traffic, the land uot only be given free for the road, but also their request be complied with to fence the road for its entire length round the small flat ou; the lower sido only, and round the large flat on the higher side only. The Committee cannot recommend the Council to make a present of the fencing now round the river bank of the lai'ge flat to the Thames County Council for two reasons, the first because the Borough Council will require it for enclosing the promenade to be made by the Council between the river's bank arid the County road j^lnd secondly because it is a description of fence that would be useless for fencing in a public road, io as to resist in any way the divergence of traffic. The road is being marked off by the Foreman of Works as ordered by the Council at'its last sitting, the line of flags indicates the centre of the road of 45 feet. The Committee desire to place on record that up to the present date no reply to the Council's letter lias been received, nor has tho undertaking as promised by the Officer of the Thames County Council so many months ago relative to the removal of tho trestle legs supporting the County race flume been given by the Thames County Council, and submit that some action should be taken in this matter. —L. Ehuknbkied."

The report of the Eire Brigade Com? mittco was /end and adopted. The Grahanistowrf Brigade asked permission (o more the Williamson street fire-bell to

Q.uocn Hired at their own cost. This was agreed to.

Tho reports of tho Kclievini* Officer ami the Pinauco Committee were read and adopted.

Tlie following notice of motion was Rivi:iv *hy Cr MeGovran :— *' Tliut tlsia Council take into consideration the advisability of calling for tender* for performing the Borough work by contract for a period of three years, providing for n stated quantity of metal per chain under specification to be drawn up by this Council."

Cr McGowan moved, and Cr Marshall seconded, " That this Council is prepared to take into consideration the aniMlgamation of the local bodies on the Thames." On being pat to the vote the resolution was lost by two Totea. This was all the business.
