GISBORNE.
This day. The GiSDOiae residents on McDonald's Bill.
The Memoir to bo asked to resign oi support the Government.
A large meeting of settlers wail held on Saturday to discuss Mr McDonald's Native Law Suits Bill. It wai decided by meeting to ask Mr McDonald to withdraw the Bill, as being only one sided and calculated to cause much litigation, and to play into the hands of the Bepudiationists. A committee was formed to draw op suggestions as to what is required, and these will be forwarded to the Government with a request to introduce a bill suitable alike to Europeans and Maoriei.
A petition will be got up asking Allan McDonald to resign or support the present Government. He stated at theelection it' he found himself in Opposition he would resign. Much inconvenience is felt here among the natives and Europeans, there being no Fraud Commissioner appointed fur this district.
