A Trade Hardship. A deputation from the Licensed Victuallers waited on the Premier to-day, pointing out the hardships they suffered by being made to pay full rate for underproof spirits. The Premier promised that the GoTernment wculd give the matter their earnest consideration. "The City Council has rejected the proposal to purchase a steam fire engine. Another Special Settlement. Mr Loucb, of Tauranga, has wHtten to the Minister of Lands applying for 25,000 acres ofland in the Bay of Plenty district for the purpose of a special settlement, in which he states, should the Government grant him these lands, be would be prepared to bring out from the United Kingdom sufficient families, pos- j sessed with capital, to take up the said j lands. He also proposed to apportion j one fifth of the land so granted for settlement by colonists.
