PER SPECIAL WIRE TO "STAR."
(Pek Pbbss Association.) DUN.EDIF. Last night. Two Children Troxat to death. A fire broke out before 10 o'clock in a two roomed cottage at the rear of some buildiims near the corner of King street. The buiiding was occupied by a dairyman named Michael O'Brien, who has a wife and 3 children. At. the time of the fire the husband and wife and infant were outside the honse. and two children were in bed. It is believed that one of the fowls inside the house knocked over the lamp, for it was from the breaking of a lamp that the fire originated. The small tenement was filled with flames directly, and though desperate efforts were made to save the children, both perished in ihe flames. Their bodies were recovered about hulf an hour after the fire broke out. One of the children is a boy aged 3, and the other a girl 2 years old. The scene was a terrible one, father and mother were in uncontrollable agony, and the mother swooned and was removed to a neighboring house in an. insensible state. ] A very strange incident connected with the affair is that when O'Brien rushed to see the bodies of his children he was struck a heavy blow in the face by a fireman, and an order whs made by one of the brigade to take him in charge. This, of course, occurred iv a mistake, but it was an exceedingly painful exhibition of officiousne*s.
