This day. Frank Nicholson, collecting for the New Zealand Punch, was charged with the fraudulent appropriation of a number of sniail sums, belonging to the proprietor, amounting altogether to orer 255. A deputation from the Wellington Locfil Industries Association waited upon the Colonial Industry Committee this morning, supplying a list of alterations in the tariff required by the different trades, some trades wanting the duties ou certain articles increased, others wanting decrease. As some trades wanted an entire remission of duties on articles which other trades desired a protective duty, t!e different trades had to compromise matters so that all might agree as to a list to be laid before the Parliamentary Committee. The-Coaferace of Licensod Victuallers. The licensed victuallers delegatesthree from Christchureh, four from Nelson, oue from West Coast, one from Thames (Auckland), four from Wellington, (Dunedin is unrepresented)—have been holding a conference for some days. The proceedings are private. It is understood the result of the deliberations is to oppose the bottle licenses, and demand a rebate of the duty on spirits under proof and refer the matter to the consideration of the tariff committee of the House now sitting.
