THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1879.

It is probable that Mr Brodie will proceed to Wellington in a few days on County business. It was mentioned at the Borough Conacil meeting last night touching the advisability of the Mayor going to Wellington, bat nothing definite was done. It seeiss to be accepted as a fact that unless local matters are attended to during the session of Parliament little may be expected during the recess. There are grounds for tbis belief; and looking more immediately to the future of the Thames, as matters stand in Wellington, there appears to be fair grounds for the adoption of such a course by our local corporation.s The Auckland members Swanson, Hurst, and Wood, it is stated hare mnde terms for purely Auckland interests, (of course who ever heard of Thames affairs being considered by residents or Parliamentary representatives of the capital), and Capt. Colbeck, the other seceder, is reported to hare given his allegiance to the Government on condition that the Northern Bailway is constructed. Looking at our own members, unfortunately they are in opposition, and in such a position they would not probably ask for favor, and it cannot be exp#ct«d that the

Government would place- sums on the estimates for purely Thames works, especially as capitttl was made out of the fact that the Thames in the past had received large amounts of public money. There is no question that unless some steps are taken little of the £5,000,000 may be looked for on the Thames. The Mayor, we beliere, has already written to the Government upon matters touching the future of the Borough, and so far has neglected no opportunity to lay before the authorities the peculiar circumstances of the Thames municipality.
