A coRSBsroNDENT in Wellington telegraphs to us the astounding intelligence that Sir George Grey is to be asked to again take the leadership of his party, and perform the role of saviour of the Liberal policy instituted by himself. It' this is true, the saying that " history repeats itself" is proven, this making the second time that Sir George has reentered the arena of polities as a champion to defend the clouded fortunes of a policy of which he himself was the originator. Sir George Grey seems to have resigned the leadership of the party simply because he believed that Stewart, Dick, and others would enroll themselves under the standard of Liberalism if he resigned in favor of the Otago champion. The result was as expected. On the resignation of Sir George large accessions to the Liberal rinks occurred, aud the guage of battle was boldly thrown down to the Ministerialists. Several weeks' party wrangling followed, which has culminated in the Liberal leaders discovering they made a fatal mistake in assenting to the resignation of the " Great Pro Consul." As soon as Sir George Grey stepped from his high position and appeared as one of tha rank and file, the spine of tho Liberal party was injured—its adhesiveness departed, and a well organised, clearly defined party
degenerated into a rabble driven hither and thither like a flock of sheep. We have no hesitation in saying that Sir George Grey at the head of the Liberal party is the right man in the right place, and we will hail with feelings of the greatest satisfaction the confirmation of the rumor we publish to-day.
