A Tery serious accident happened today in Castle street through the tramway engine. A man named Meldrum, dray2»an for Findlay an i Co., ia endeavoring to stop his horse, which had taken fright at the engine, was knocked over, and both his legs fractured and other injuries "inflicted, which are likely to prove fatal. 'He was conveyed to /the Hospital on a mattrass by two of the Maori prisoners from the gaol, and a warder. ■ ■
