LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington. Last night. The Council sat to-day for twenty-fire minutes, the business being only formal. On the motion of Mr Waierhouse, a return was ordered of the probable cost of all railways under contract.
The motion for a committee to enquire into the question of making the JSTew Zealand University Beserves at once available for higher education, was postponed. A REFLECTION ON THE COMMONS. There was some discussion on the appointment of a Local Bills Committee, the Hon. Sir E. Bell and Col. Whitmore remarking on the careless manner- in which the Lower House pasned local and private bills, rendering it necessary for the Council's committee to exercise great caution to prevent the passing of measures which, in many cases, would perpetrate acts of injustice. The subject was postponed till the nest day. The Council rose at five minutes to three.
