RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before E. F. Tizard and L. J. Bagnall, Esqs., J.'sP.) Sarah Cooper wits charged, on theinformation of Isane H. Cooper, with being of unsound mind. Mr Brassoy appeared for the defendant, who was present in Court, aud said she was no more a lunatic than any man in the Court. She was in the habit of taking a drop too much, and when sho got in that state she bad an ungovernable temper. Her husband wished her to take the pledge, but he thought that this was a monstrous way of bringing that object about. He believed that if defendnnt would promise to tiike the pledge there would be nothing further about it. Mr Miller said the case was in the hands of the Court. A certificate stating defendant was insane had been received from Dr Gilbert. The Bench decided to adjourn the Court till 12 o'clock and in the meantime the defendant would be examined by Drs Kilgour and Eowbottom. On resuming at 12 o'clock, the ceriiGcates of Drs Eilgour and Kowbottom were produced, stating that the woman was not insane, and she was consequently discharged.
