AUCKLAND.
Last night,
Sheridan Carlisle Hall, a young man of respectable connections was brought up at the i'oliee Court on charges of forging a telegram with intent to defraud and obtaining goods by false pretences, amounting to £40 from Mr S. C. Caulton. It appears that wheu Mr Caulton asked for a settlement of his bill as Hall was living luxuriantly, he told him £800 was coming to him, and produced a lettter purporting to come from the Colonial Bank, Duuedin, to that effect (signed " Ferguson, manager"). Hall was ultimately committed to stand bis trial, reserving his defence. Ho took copious notes. The directors of the Union Steamship Company gave an excursion trip down the harbor in the Itotomahana. A large number accepted invitations.
