This day. ! The City of Sydney has arrived. She brings the following summary:— ~ Sydkit, October 9. i A Soaadil. - A Mr Linklater, a barrister, and a welcome guest of the Upper Ten, was arrested aboard the ship John Duthie for Loadoa charged with bigamy. The defeadaat has been remanded for a week. Tat gentleman omitted to bring with hisa his wife from England, and during his sojourn here had taken to himself another lady. The tidings of his maniagt reached his wife's esrs in England, and she set the law ia motion. Accused being so well known in the upper circlet ths> matter is causing considerable interest. '."
Baakin at ftalt. BuUree and Gill, the manager aad accountant of the Lithgow branch of the. Commercial Bank, have been arrested for embeuling £400. Referring to the defeat of the Gray Government, the Sydney Morning Herald says: "It remains to be seen whether New Zealand possesses a politiots who can do bettor than Sir George Grey has done," and concludes by laying—" That the winning party is not. remarkable for individual strength, and under the circumstances the political prospects of flew are not remarkably bright." The Town and Country Journal ~p«b> lishes a long paragraph headed " Triuappll of Journalism," and says:" Auckland won rich laurels for the enterprise wWelr distinguished one of its daily p*pen la connection with the opening of the Sydaej Exhibition. On the 17th of September* the day of opening, the Auckland Star, one of the most spirited journals in . Australasia, surprised the public by giving in its regular edition six columns of the particulars of greatest interest." Dr Hector has since obtained a copy of the Star for the purpose of having it framed, and placed in the Exhibition ia the New Zealand Court. The account of the opening was far more complete than that contained in any of the Sydney papers. , •.'.-■■ Dr Hector publishes in txealkat tatalogue for the New Zealand Coiri. A vast amount of interest has beta taken by the visitors to the Exhibition ia the magnificent display which represents so well the wealth and resources of New Zealand. The catalogue just published is welt arranged in classes or departments.
