AUCKLAND.
Last night. Arrived: the new steamer Jtotomahana. Hundreds went aboard, to inspect her. She did the run from Gisborne to Auckland in 21 hours, averaging 15 knots. Miss Manning and Archdeacon Clarke, of Waimate, proceeded to Whirinaki to see Hauraki Manning, who escaped' from custody of the police when arrested for issuing valueless cheques. After the interview he surrendered himself to Mr Yon Stunner, K.M. at Hokianga. Manning has been remanded on the original charge to Dargaville. Bail was allowed, himself £100 and two sureties £100. A Severe Sick, Mr John Brown, of Cambridge, has had his collarbone broken while shooting by the recoil of the gun.
