Tbe Meat Preserving Company's books show £139,000 to bad on the half-year. The loss is attributed to the operation of the stock tax and loss on shipment* to England. If the stock tax is not repealed the company will probably be wound up. The Aborigines Society reports an . increase in the mortality amongst the natives, chiefly from lung disease.
