LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

Wellington, Last night. The Legislative Council mot to-day to pass an Imprest Supply Bill, and, while •waiting for the measures to be sent up from the Lower House, disposed of some formal and unimportant business.

The Hon. Sir F. Bell gave notice to move, when affairs were settled, for a select committee to examine iato and report, with all information and details, upon all railway contracts let by the Ministry since the close of the session of 1878. It wus ordered that all petitions not dealt with in last short session, should he treated as though now presented. On the Imprest Supply Bill (£200,000) being received, the Hon. Col. Whitmore said, as his successor was not present, he would, in the interest of the public service, take charge of the Bill. The measure then passed all its stages. Sir F. D.
