Thames Harbor Board.

Tho usual fortnightly meeting of this body ea^ield a"t the Council Chambers last evening. Present —Mr John Brown (Chairman), the Mayor, Messrs Osborne, Loydon, Head, Wilson, Ehrenfried and McGowan. . MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. SNAG. A letter was read from C. S. Stons drawing attention to the existence of a snag in the Kauaeransia channel. A letter from the Harbour Master was read on the same subject. The matter was left in the hands of the Chairman and Mr Eurenfi ied. VABIOUS MATTBBS. \ A letter was read from the Harbor Master drawing attention to the necessity of the erection of a shed on the reclamation works as a receptical for the harbour boat and gear during summer, also to the hardship under which carters and others labored in, there being no communication between Mary street and the Hard: The Town Clerk said that the Government had let a contract to Mr O'Brien for the work, which was to be completed in 12 months. Mr Leydon spoke on the necessity of erecting a firewood wharf. The boatmen would be glad to contribute. —It was decided that Messrs Leydon and Head make enquiries concerning the matter. FOBESHOBE ALLOTMENTS. A letter was read from A. and G. Price stating that they abandon ail claim to the foreshore allotment previously applied for by them. At the request of the Chairman Mr Ehrenfried said he would hand back the allotments purchased on his behalf. FOBESHOEE GEANTS. A letter was read from Mr G. N. Brassey stating that he was pushing on with the preparation of the foreshore grants as speedily as possible. In reply to a question the secretary slated that Mr R. Stone had as yet neither accepted nor refused the allotment. ADDBEBS TO CAPT. BEST. It was resolved that the Chairman and Messrs McGowan and • Ehrenfried be appointed a Committee to prepare an address to Capt. Best, late Harbour Master, and have it engrossed. * ELECTION BEGULATIONB. The Secretary drew attention to the unsatisfactory nature of the present regulations under the Harbour Boards Act, regulating the election of members of the Board. Ifc was resolved that the Chairman and Messrs McCullough and Bead be a Committee to deal with the matter'in the direction of having an alteration made in the regulations. ADVBBTISING. The Chairman drew attention to the serious cost of advertising. Some conversation took place on this matter, Mr Head moving that each paper have the advertisements alternate quarters. —Mr Leydon and Mr McGowan spoke in favor of' advertising in both papers on the broad principle of publicity. Mr Leydon said that more money would be lost by not advertising than would be Bared by limiting the publicity.—The resolution was carried. StE JOHN COODB'S EEPOBT. The consideration of the above reportwas left over till nest meeting. ACCOUNTS. A number of small accounts were passed for payment. WAYS AND MEANS. The Chairman said, as all the members would know, their overdraft at the Bank amounted to £6000, aud it was for them to decide whether they should borrow £12;000, as at present proposed, or a"larger sum. Mr Ehrenfried said that it would be remembered a committee had been appointed to see the bank manager re the overdraft, and that some of the members of the Board had become liable for a considerable sum of money owing by the Board to the bank. This money came due, and they had arranged with the bank that it would not press for the money, on consideration of the Board promising to get the whole overdraft paid off. He conjffered Coode's report a perfect farce. "What information could he have obtained during his two hours visit ? He moved—" That the Chairman communicate with the Government in reference to the promise given by the Government to the Mayor, a member of this Board, to ! advance £6000.upon the securities of the proposed loan." Mr MeGrowan seconded. Carried. TENDEBS. Messrs Souter and Cos. tender, of 5s 3d per square yard, for a quantity of squared atones, the property of the ' Board, wai* accepted. This concluded the business.
