AUCKLAND.
This day. Two Youths Supposed, to be Drowned in Auckland. The steamer Lily arrived last night from Wairoa South bringing with her a water-logged boat which has been identified as that in which Alick George, aged 23, and Donald McKenzie, aged 13, left on a fishing excursion. Young George is a son of tho lare baker of Albert street, while Captain Kenneth McKenzie, of the schooner Saxon, is father oi the other lad. The captain and two brothers of young George went to search for them yesterday morning, but up to last night they had not returned. The schooner Aotehau frdni Rarotonga arrived last night, after a passage" of thirteen days, with a cargo of oranges. A surveyor named Denham formerly of Mahurangi, and lately employed by Captain Colbeck, was arrested yesterday on a charge of stea'ing from a recent arrival named Singleton, a pocket book containing, money and securities to the amount of £6000. Mr Singleton with family arrived a few months ago from Wellington, and either purchased or rented a farm at Pokeno, residing meanwhile with his family in Symonds street. Yesterday he was drinking about town and fell in with Denham. On discovering his loss, he at once informed the police, and the detectives speedily effected an arrest of the suspected individual. City 'West Election. Mr Newman has filed a petition against Dr Wallis and W. J. Hurst, for bribery, corruption, and alleged illegal practices in the City West election. He has given a surety himself in £200 and two securities of £100 each to prosecute the petition. The petition went to Wellington by the Taiaroa at five this morning accompanied by affidavits. Whitaker and Russel are the solicitors in the action. The Hero left Sydney last night for Auckland.
