LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington, Last night; The Legislative Council to-day only met for a few minutes, the business being mostly the appointment of a committee. Captain, Hill was re-appointed Chairman of Committees, on the motion of Col. Whitmore, seconded by Major Richmond. The Colonial Secretary, in reply to Sir P. D. Bell, said the education reserves return, now being printed, would be laid on the table within a week. Col. Whitmore gave" notice to introduce the Habitual Drunkards' Bill on Tuesday. Sir F. D. Bell complained that the Hansard Committee of the Lower House had interfered with the correction by councillors of their speeches after the close of last session, aud he asked the Speaker's ruling on a question of privilege. Sir W. Fitzherberfc said that the Committee had over-stepped its authority, and he would take steps to prevent its recurrence. The Council then adjourned.
