Fifteen prisoners are awaiting trial for offences comparatively light. The most serious offence is a charge of perjury against a person well-known at the Thames, who formerly held a respectable position. The report laid by MrErrington before the Oily Council upon' the use of. water in connection with the city service explains the loss which has puzzled the Council so much, and made the working expenses so heavy in proportion to the receipts. 26,000 gallons daily are run to waste in consequence of the service not being used in a sufficient degree to keep the water in circulation in the pipes. Mr Hughes, Superintendent of the Fire Brigade, in a report urges the City Council to rigidly eaforce the building regulations, and insp.ect certain buildings in the course of erection, so as to prevent a repetition of the Duuedin calamity. I James Purcell got badly hurt in removing a conveyance this morning in Queen street. New Golden PahJ Coromandel, shares have risen to 7s 6d.
