The testimonial humbug has beea well illustrated in Melbourne rerj recently. On the occasion of bis farewell benefit, " handsome " George Rignold was pre-. sented with a locket by a number of kit admirers, in recognition of his efforts to raise the standard of the drama in Victoria. In mak:ng the presentation, Mr Coppin referred in glowing terms to Mrltignold'g attainments, and intimated that on his return to Europe he would not, like > many other professional risitors, run down the colony. Now comes the sequel. Mr fii^nold left by the steamer on the following Tuesday, but as b.9 was ca the. point of sailing he was interviewed on behalf of a well-knon n theatrical managi**' . and requested to pay £14, his ihate of the cost of the locket presented to aim. Mr Signold tore the ornament off hi« chain, dashed it from, him, and, in true melodramatic action, declined to contribute towards its cost. So msch for the spontaneous offerings of frieajU and well* wishers.—Exchange. \
