RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
(Before K. Kenrick, Esq., E.M.) THIS DAY. MALICIOUS INJUEY TO PEOPEETY. James Connor was charged with malicious injury to property at Tairua by breaking a door, the property of one E. Smith, proprietor of the Post Office Hotel, Tairua. Mr Miller for the prosecutor. Defeuduut pleaded not guilty,
Edward Smith deposed that on Sunday last the defendant was at his place, drunk. Ho went out, and witness locked tho door, when defendant smashed two panels with tho axo.
Constable Law deposed to arresting defendant for smashing in the door. Defendant said he had done it because Smith would not let him get bis coat, which was insido the hotel. Fined 40s nnd costs, or 14 days imprisonment and ordered to pay 20s, tnc damage done to the door. ■ OBSCENE LANGUAGE AND FIGHTING. Patrick Lawlor and John Rogers were fined £1 and costs each for using obscene language and fighting at Tairua, and were bound over to keep the peace for six months in their own recognisances.
WANDEBIKG CATTLE. Williom Dufty was fined 7s and costs for allowing 7 cows to wander at large on Parawai Eoad. THE FIGHT AT TABABU. Thomas Webb and William Connor were charged with a breach of the peace at Tararu. Defendants pleaded guilty. Sergeant Mulville stated the case, the facts of which are already known to our readers. His Worship bound over the defendants to keep the peace for six months in their own recognisances of £20. Court adjourned.
