OHINEMURI.

THE SITUATION UP THE BITER.

The facts stated already by us give all the information re the situation. Tukukino has not been able to induce Pakara and Epiha to give themselves up to justice. The old Komata Chief in relating the interview with Epiha said :•— .

" I found Epiha hard at work building a whare. No conversation took place until after prayers in the evening, when I told Kpiha that I had come for bis reasons —first of all to see them and hear what they had to say—yes, or no. I wished to kaow whether thej would go to the Supreme Court or not If they pare me a decided answer either way my course was clear. I intended to collect all my people into one place, and let the pakeha have a clear road, if they persisted in their determination to refuse to surrender. Epiha replied that he would not go to the Supreme Court; if Mr Puckey came with his policemen he would not go. If he (Mr Puckey) tried to force him he would resist and would employ means to frustrate his attempt. I urge him to surrender and sate the district from trouble, but they persisted in refusing. I intend, however, to go again. Mr Puckey extended the time by which the culprits should be given up to San* day next, after which he would not undertake that further time or concessions would be given by the Groreramenfc.
