The Chronicle asserts positively that Mr Jackson intends to petition against Mr Mason's return for* the Hutt, on the grounds of bribery and intimidation.
A movement is on foot to induce Mr E. Pearce to become a candidate for the Mayoralty.
The Pinafore Company opened successfully last night at the Academy of Music. •
The Loftus Company, at the Royal, played a piece called "On the Sly," which all the papers unite in condemning as indecent, and the Post has refused to insert any more of the Company's advertisements.
The interprovinciai football match between Nelson and Wellington was played to-day on the Basin reserve. There was a large attendance of spectators. Wellington scored four touch downs to Nelson's nothing, winning easily. No gaols kicked.
