"Ib there no hope ? the sick man said The silent doctor shook his bead." 11 "While thero is life there's hope, he Baid, " JEgroio, dum animas est, spes est." DE L. £T~ SMITH (The only legally-qualified medical v man advertising). CO X SUITS — On nil a flection s of the Nervous System) no matter from what caueo arising). On all broken-down constitutions. On all discuses arising from early indiscretions. On Gout. On Bhcumatism. In tbeee colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repiningo futile. The sole idea should bo the chancea we possess of remedying the ills we already huve, for combatting tho effects likely to result. Hide it as he ruay, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty/ we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to üb, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with v confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence ; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to cay, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and without regard to the fitness; qualification, experienco and-ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lids in quite an opposite direction; Is it astonishing that so, many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope und money ? Have I not fur years pointed out to them that I, Dr L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies I. Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, theso very quacks, and expoted the various nostrums they are selling,—such as Fhosphodjne Essence of Life, Ac—and had them analysed and found them to consist of " Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have BKOVUD to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to giro those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they con consult a legally qualilied man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Dr L. L. Smith is the only legally quuliGed mediearmun advertising, .and he has been in Melbourne 24 years, in full practico on NERVOUS DISEASES LOSS OF POWER AND DEBILIIY SYPHILITIC AFFECTIONS WANT OF CONDITION GOUT AND RHEUMATISM.
