Last night. Allwright, the Major of Lyttelton, was elected to-day, the numbers being—Attwright 192, Murray-Aynsley 186. The election was very quiet. Allwright ii a Government supporter. Thanks to the newly-formed ratepayers' association, a number. of very good men hare been secured for the next City Council. W. Moorhouse/W. C. Tindall, and J. A. Cunningham ware nominated to-day for Ashley. The Liberal Association hare received a telegram from Macandrew and Grey distinctly denying that the railway work* shops will be removed from Christchuroh to Dunedin. The grain market has not been par* tioularly active this week. The weather has been fine for the last four weeks, and quite hot yesterday..
