We conclude oar report of the proceed* ingi at the County Council meeting yesterday :— ALTBBATIOX OF BYB-I.AW. Cr Porter moved the motion of which ke hud given notice to the effect—" That the bye-law re slaughter-houses be 10 altered that people be enabled to take oat half-yearly licenses." Cr Carpenter seconded. Carried. APFLICATIOX FOB 1109. A letter was received from Birekand party, -Joker claim, applying for 1* tons of old water«raee iron to construe! a qaartz shoot. They wanted it at a reduced rate. Cr Greenville spoke in support of their application. It was intended to allow the surrounding claims the use of it. Mr Birch wan present to urge the application on the Council. Cr Brown moved the reference of the matter to the members for'Xauaeranga and the Chairman. He spoke stronfly, against deputations continually waiting on the Council on small matters.
Cr Bagnall seconded. Carried. TAPtT SOAD COKUACT. A letter was read from Brownitt and party intimating that the/ had fiuished No. 7 contract, lapu road. They had been great losers and asked Council for a small sum of money to relieve part of their losses. The Council decided that they eoald not grant their application. TOtJCHKB. A treasury voucher for £9 17s 6d, gold field's revenue, was read. HEMATITE PAIHT. A letter was read from Mr Edwards renewing his application for water from County supply to be used at Prince Alfred battery for the purpose of enabling him to carry on his experiments in the maufacture of hematite paint. He offered the same terms as those granted : to the Piako company. . I It was resolved to inform Mr Edwards that the Council could not assent to the application in consequence of the action the Council were going to take re the securities. WAtO-KABAKA PUMPS. A letter was read from the manager of the Queen of Beauty Gold Minning Com* pany, accepting the terms offered by Council for water from County Supply to work the Wato-Karaka pumps.
LAKD SLIPS. A letter was read from G. Pearee of Hill street, drawing attention to the land slips in front of his .premises. Beferred to Surveyor with power to act. ■BMT. A letter was read from the Public Works Department, claming rent £26, for allotment on which Water Baee materials was stored. It was resolved, to pay the rent, and move the material.
GOLD DUTY* A treasury voucher for £489 6s 4d, Gold Duty for the months of Jane and July Was received. CONTBACTOB'fI APPLICATION.
A letter was read from Patterson and party, contractors for making the Maunxakerikcri tunnel, asking the Council to re-comidsr their decision re | the forfeiture of their deposit for failing to carry out the contract.
