, The usual monthly, meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers to-day. The following is the report of tht Board of Works:—" Your Board ha?e the honor to report as follows:—Tapu Bbad;— <.) Men hare been employed clearing slips "■-* off this road during the 'month. Two contracts hate been marked out and tenders called for them. The other contract! for the expenditure of the special rote are „ now being laid out. Tapu to Mercury Bay.—lnstructions hare keen gtren to extend the dray road as far up the Tapn Creek as the vote will allow, Waiotshi Biding.—Men hare been employed in' clearing slips and keeping Wato»ai. road in repair. One contract has been laid oat and called for in tie Moanatairi Creek. KaoaeranM Biding.—One contract} haft. ; been accepted and tenders called for . another on the Otanui road. The Te Papa road is being laid out, and tenders will be called for Saturday. The road from the Hape Creek to Karaka Creek ia laid out, and tenders will be also called for Saturday. The road, ia Hill aad., Sealey streets has been made fit for traffic, and large quantities of quartsare now being ■ brought down.? June, J«ly and Aagusft it as follows:—" Your committee bar* the honour to report as follows:—On the 4th of June they examined and passed tw< payment—Accounts for public works, £3869 16s; do., for water nee, £161816s lid; salaries, £74 Is 8d; Colonel Fraser, as Betnrning Officer, £16; sundry!accounts, £24 2s Bd. Total, £5601 7s 3d. On the 11th of the tame month: Charitable aid, £6 2s 6d; accounts for public works, £285 5a Id. ToUl, £291 7s7d. ? On the "4th July: Accounts for public 1 works, £438 6s Id. On the 7th of August: Salaries, £74 li 8d; legal expenses, £45 8s 2d; printing and adrertising, £21 18s 6d; mtseellaneout ' accounts, £54 8s 4d. Total, £195 16i8d. Your committee on the 14th Jane, by resolution of the Council, passed £1000 to the credii. of Mr George McCaul on account of the water race mains, and on the 18th July. £120 to the County Chair- : ; man for his Wellington expenses. ;
