AUCKLAND.

This day.

(Pjsr Pjrbss Aobkct.)

The Herald correspondent telegraphs from Kihikihi, Waikato:—Jtewi, soon alter leaving his settlement at Puniu, to accompany Mr Grace to Ohinemuri with another chief, named Hauhuru, got a severe fall from hit horse. The old man received a most severe shock and seems much hurt. He is now lying at Anderson's Hotel. He is quite helpless and bad to be lifted out of Boss's waggon when brought up. He is well cared for, and seems to be coming round, but being an old man it will take some time before he will be able to get about. His recovery may be quite expected unless he takes a bad turn. It was his intention to proceed to Ohinemuri to assist the Hon. Mr Sheehan in endeavoring to have the natives who committed the outrage oh the survey party handed over to justice. Bewi this morning said to me that it was his opinion that the party of natives who attempted to take the lives of the surveyors are recent converts of Te Whiti's; he also stated that they will receive no sympathy from Tawhiao, as! they bad violated his command at Xopua that no more blood was to be shed in New Zealand.

; The Hinemoa has arrived .with Sir G. Grey; he addresses a meeting in the Theatre to-night.
