Last night. It is reported that Mr Earl intends standing for the Bay of Islands district.
At the City West nomination Alexander Black proposed Dr Wallis. and Jklr Johnson seconded; Mr Ewington*p*roposed Mr Newman, and Mr French seconded; Mr Swanson proposed Mr Hurst which was seconded; Mr Masefield proposed Mr Stark, and Mir Hunter seconded. The show of hands was in favor of Hurst and Wallis, viz.:—Hurst 63, Wallis 59, Stark 51, Newman 10. The polling will take place on Saturday. Judge Manning's son has just travelled through „ from Mokau to Waikato. Found specimens of quartz which are be* lieved ; to be auriferous. The Kingites were friendly. Mr Grace of Alexandra recommended that a man should be kept at Te Aroha, and at Mr Firth's out-station, to keep a sharp look-out. Major Te Wheoro, of lower Waikato, has cautioned his men against encouraging offenders if they pass that way. James McCosh Clarke met the City Eait electors and received a rote of thauks. It is state:! that in the affray at Eaikolie, Holereue Wi Tona, the native
assessor of the district, was shot, also two natives —one on each side—named Pore and Aururu. Tlir dispute is said to have arisen about land under negotiation by John Lundou and being surveyed by Harding. Mr Stark met the City Wust electors and receired a vote of confidence. Rewi, aftor leaving Ki'iikihi for Ohinemuri in company wilh Grace to assist Sheehas, fell from his horse and received a severe shock,raud is now lying helpless at Andersen's Hotel.
