CHRISTCHURCH.

Last night. S.P.Andrews, the Liberal candidate for Christchurch, addressed a large meeting at the Gaiety Theatre, and received a unanimous vote of confideucp. At a meeting of temperance electors, called on Saturday eyening, which was poorly attended, it was decided that in the present unorganised state of Temperance bodies it was not desirable to attempt influence rotes at the present election. A committee was appointed to organise a Temperance rote in view of elections taking place next year. A large party of civilians went to New Brighton yesterday with the police, and searched for the body of the missing man Yennall, but without success.

Nominations for the city took place today. The Oddfellows' Hall was crowded to excess. C. J. Stevens was proposed by W. Pratt, and seconded by J. Evans. Hon. E. It. Richardson was proposed by C. W. Turner, and seconded by A. R. Kerk. Sir Geo. Grey was proposed by Dr Turnbull and seconded by H. E. Alport. iS. P. Andrews was proposed by R. A. Dephare, and seconded by H. Praner. C. J. Tredwell was proposed by J. Perces, and seconded by G. W. Welmer. The Returning Officer declared the show of hands to be about equal for Stevens, Richardson and Sir Geo. Grey.
