The Victorian Government,narrowly escaped defeat on the Budget proposals. The Age, and the dissatisfied MinlsterUlists, stated that if Berry* party net in caucus and agreed to any tariff, programme, it would be accepted. Berry then re-called his party, and on'a diviton obtained a majority of forty-eight on the first item in the Budget. Several Ministerialist avowed their only! reason for supporting the Budget was that it was' undesirable to hare a change of Ministry at the present juncture. . ,".'
