- McWiUiams Interviewed.

'; At midday to-day Mr Superintendent Thompson, accompanied by a reporter of this journal, proceeded to the Hospital to interview Me Williams. He was lying in the accident ward, evidently very weak from loss of blood. In answer to several questions put to him by Mr Thompson, the young man said that he was fired at at ten yards distance by a native who answers the description of one Jtfohata, well known about Paeroa. Another native also fired at him. From the appearance of the wounds it is evident that one was inflicted' by a bullet pr large slug, but the others were made by small shot. The bullet entered at the back of the thigh and came out.Just below the groin, and evidently passed' through the bone. The wodnd is,.a very nasty one, but there is every reason' to believe it-will not entail any serious consequences. Before firing the native supposed to be Mohata aaid, "you're got

to die." Partly assisted by Powderell, who was » short distance off in the thick scrub, he wulkfd and crawled a distance •of three miles before he was assisted by the people of Paeroa.

Mr Thompson has chartered the new river steamer in which with Mr Sh^ebam Mr Thompson and some members of the police force will proceed to Ohinerauri. We understand that an effort will be made to capture the natives, though we very much doubt that it will be successful, as the nalires are probably now comparatively safe in the wilds of the King Country—a region uudefiled by the steps of the Pirihimanu.
