With reference to the Southern Maori election it is expected that Tainui lanauriorong and Teihoka will again be candidates. At a runanga of the Kaiapoi Maoris it was decided that natives abstain from voting at the European election., „.

The footballers have got themselves into trouble again. Last night an effigy of Councillor Cass, who had made some offensive remarks at the Council meeting about cricket.and football in general, was handed round at the dinner, and about midnight a number of the men went down to Cass' private houso with it. After kicking up a row and making night hideous for some, they attempted to burn the effigy—a process which frightened Cr Cass- out of his wits, and his wife into hysterics. The police are busily enquiring for the perpetrators of the fearful outrage.
