Dr Hector writes from Sydney on August 15th stating that the the .New Zealand portion of Exhibition is still in* complete. The space allotted to New Zealand is in rather a dark portion in comparison with other partsof the building, but that this may be an advantage daring the hot summer months. He has applied for an extra space of 2COO square feet in the basement for 5000 square feet of floor and 3000 square feet of corresponding wall space in the gallery. The art collection is much larger than: was anticipated. He thinks it probable he may get a 'concession of space from Queensland. It has .been found unpracticable to erect the Maori house in the building and a site is to be selected for it in the grounds for the expenses attending its erection as the independant building will be considerable. The exhibits are all insured against fire. He thinks the exhibits will not be properly arranged for a month after the official opening. The goods from many countries hare not arrived; only, Holland, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and New Zealand have commenced fitting up their res* pective courts. Electioneering was never so active here before. All the candidates have large committees, and are canvassing energetically. The polling it expected to be larger than any previous election. . James Mackay will not stand for Waikato. . The Temperance Societies are pledged to support Levin and Hunter. i A sample of the D'Urville Island j copper ore sent to Newcastle yielded 20 per cent,
