Last night. The brig Magellan Cloud cleared for Kaipara, and will probably lead timber for Lyttelton, and the Eliza Mary, for Dnnedin, from the Manukau. Arrived: Sea Shell,, from Lyttelton, also the schooner Pirate, from the Islands. In a boat accident at Great Barrier a lad- named Jai. George was drowned. ; Election Matters, : W. J. Speight, of the Thames, contests City East against James MeCosh Clarke, in the Grey interest. September 3rd is fixed for the Waikato nomination, and the 10th for the polling; September 4th for the nomination for Waipa, and the 10th for polling. Nominations for Franklin district fixed for 3rd September, and polling 11th.
