To all intelligent watchers of the current of public opinion in the colony, there cannot be the least doubt but that Liberalism will be triumphant in the coming elections. Nearly all the candidates for election from north to south have promised support at least to the main features of the Liberal programme as enunciated in the Governor's speech. All truly or falsely profess the Liberal creed. They apparently agree on matters of policy, but who is to be the leader of the party, will be the rock on which they will diride. Election : addresses already gire premonitions of this. Some intending candidates rate about Liberalism but will not heer of Sir George Grey as the leader, and others—and we trust they will be in the majority—cannot disassociate Liberalism and Sir George Grey. Sir George Grey is the father of Liberalism in this colony, inasmuch as he was the first to strike a blow at the allpowerful influence of capitalists in the Government of the country, and, having broken the power of the Conservatives, it was he who promulgated the dootrines which are accepted as the main features of the Liberal creed. Men, calling themselves Liberals, but who stand up and object to Sir George Grey as the leader, are, to say the, least, guilty of ingratitude, and such men will probably, in the long run, be found false to their colors. 80 let electors beware! And if they really believe in Liberal institutions, let them be very cautious in electing men who will not accept the leadership of Sir George Grey.
