House rents, which have been ruling very high for years past, are rapidly falling—as much as 20 and 30 per cent, in business parts of the town. The case was adjourned for the production of evidence. The defence was that the wound was inflicted trifling. A man, for stealing a cruet from Barrett's hotel, got three month.'' hard labor. ...... A man, for indecency on the railway platform, was fined 40s. The ship Waimea, 100 days from London, is at the Heads. Bichard Wood, charged with obtainiug money under false pretences at Christchurch, was remanded to there.
