POLLING BOOTHS.
(To the Editor of the Eremng Star.)
Sib,—May I ask what is the little game 'of having two polling booths in this township ? Do certain parties, having an axe to grind, wish to rush their own " ticket" to the head of the poll by such means as (by the two booths) are available, viz., impersonation and dual voting. Are we to have a repetition of the old election times? Heaven-forbid! The Maories, for example, could with very litttle fear of detection vote at either or both of the booths, and defunct natives and pakeh'as could so easily be resuscitated for the occasion.—l am, &c,
Taniwha.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib, —Do you think cur Thames community are such muffs as not to know what this extra polling place is for ?—for a Maori swindle, of course —a place where they can poll for all the dead and absent natives, as they have hitherto done ? It is only a. scheme to do the best to manipulate the Maori vote by the Oppositionists. We never had two polling booths before, and why now, when our population is less than heretofore ? Our community should have been consulted as to whether there is any reason for an additional polling booth, and so to protect us from the well kuown impersonation of the Maori vote. Being a 12 years resident on this gold* field, I only like to see Faib Plat. .'.
