This day. Halcombe addressed- the electors last night. • There was a large' mee*ting of Europeans and influential natives. He condemned the system of making' small adVances onjcative lands to individuals, ' and crippling the majority of' owners by proclaiming land as under negotiation. He advocated the openipguppf land, and selling by auction in place of (fipveirnment sales, and handing the proceeds to the natives, less expenses. An almpstunanimous vote of confidence was passed. i
