The Conservative meeting held last night was not the unanimous success, it was expected. Mr Moorhouse was interrupted in the midst oif a diatribe against the Premier, by a calf for three' cheers for Sir George Grey, which were heartly given, and emphatic expressions of dissent from the views of the speaker were frequent. The contest for Ashley will probably be narrowed to Brown, Moorhouse, and Fendal, as Lance has definitely withdrawn, and Porton and Higgins are< expected to follow suit. Fendal has no' chance. Moorhouse supporters are rather-, anxious, and the latter went tip tor Amberjoy to-night and will address the electors in a day or so. , '<;,■
