: , . Last night. Dunedin Electioneering Hems. Gcod Templar Manifesto. Arrived: Thomas and Henry from Kaipara. Sailed: Bingarooma for Mel* bourne. De Lautour is announced as a candidate for Mount Ida. Mr D. L. Simpson has decided to contest Ecslyn with Mr Driver. It is said Mr James Macassey will come forward for Dunedin.

Oliver, Stewart, and Dick will address tho electors this week, and so will Maoandrew and Green for Port Chalmers.

A numerously attended meeting of the friends of the Hon. J. Macandrew was held; at the Provincial Hotel, Port Chalmers, yesterday evening, when it Wat decided that a committee should be formed to secure his return to the House of Bepresentatives. Mr David Law was ehonen Chairman of the committee.

Mr p. B. Armstrong has been asked to become a candidate for Colling wood, Grey, and will probably comply.

The following is tho concluding portion of the Good Templar manifesto, which is ' being extensively circulated and,, signed, by John ,W. Jago, G.M.C., and A. C. Cameron, G.P.S.:—" We must resolve that no man during the coming contest have our votes who is not prepared to give us an equivocal proviso of his vote when the local Option Bill for which we ask shall again be before Parliament. Immediate action should be taken in every electoral district to secure a united and decided action. Let a committee be appointed in each district to: aiceftain the opinions of the intending candidates. Let them know the terms on which our votes will be given, and let every vote be polled, so that our weight may be felt and appreciated. Thus, and thus only, will we obtain for our opinions the consideration they merit, and secure their due recognition in the House of representatives. In the late Parliament we had a small but trusting/band who, gallantly hoisted our standard, and manfully stood to our colors. Let us make it our business to see that these men, if again candidates for re-election, have our earnest and active support, and that, in next election, the number may ba largely increased;, Let u» remcfniber the magnitude of the interests involved, the manifold motives we Have for vigorous and concerted action, and that,, in the impend- ' ing conflict, it > is expected of us, that evefry man[will do s&jtodf?* .'• ;; '\ | r Matbew Hawkins, a ; well known resident, was receive^ * into gaol under remand till tomorrow, oharged with the embezzlement of monies the property of jth'e Union Building Society, ;|nd|,the Kaitangata Coal Company, both of which he was secretary.
