The election f? of a Bub Lieutenant was then proceeded with, when Mr Thos. Kitchen was unanito that office. The newly ' elected officer returned thanks to the members for the honor they had conferred on him, and said that he felt great pleasure in j., o accepting a command in a company where inch unity prevailed, and concluded by inviting them to the Imperial Hotel. Capt. Farrell, on taking the chair, proposed the- usual loyal and patriotic toasts, which were received in a becoming manner: Lieut. Douglas then, in a very complimentary manner, proposed the toast of the evening—" Their Newly-elected Lieutenant"-1-which was received with enthusiasm, and "He is jolly good fellow " and prolonged cheering. Lient. Kitchen having suitably responded, several other toasts, including a very high compliment to Bandmaster Ardern,<and also for the excellent marching time kept by Bandsman Barchard on the large drum. Lieut. Douglas said he had one more toast to propose, •'The Government of thei day." He meant the Grey Government, including the names of Sir G. Grey and,the Hon. J.
