The Christchurch Constabulary have been strengthened by the arrival of six constables from Wellington. Members of the various Football Clubs are now practising every morning, before a selection is made for the Wellington and Dunedin interprovincial matches. ■
Another meeting of the Canterbury Liberrl Association was held to-night at which preliminary steps were taken towards the object in view. It is stated that an eligible candidate has been selected to contest the election for Christchurch in conjunction with Sir George Grey. Government are collecting in twenty per cent of the rifles issued to the various volunteer corps in Canterbury, for use in the North Island.
